12-Year Anniversary Fact Sheet
Cornerstone Assistance Network was formed in 1996 (incorporated in 1997) to transform lives from poverty to purpose through collaborative initiatives that team together the efforts of churches, ministries, agencies, businesses, schools, foundations and individuals across Tulsa County. More than 161,000 tangible assistance needs have been met through hundreds of partners. The following Network Teams (listed alphabetically) have been assembled to impact lives:
Christmas in Tulsa was formed in 2007 through the teamwork efforts of Cornerstone Assistance Network and Spirit 102.3. This campaign has served nearly 4000 people in 1000 families with Christmas turkeys. Churches pick up the turkeys and deliver them to homes that have been requested assistance. Churches then offer long-term transformational assistance. The previous campaign, which was conducted from 2001 to 2007, was called Turkeys for Tulsans through which 1170 KFAQ raised funds to bless 59,600 moms, dads and children in 14,900 families with a Christmas dinner.
The Community Sharehouse, the Furniture Bank of Tulsa County, was formed as the expansion of Cornerstone Assistance Network’s furniture ministry initiated in 2001 to provide furniture to families in poverty. Churches annually deliver resources to nearly 4,100 people in nearly 1,000 homes who sleep on floors, are without appliances to store or cook food, and lack basic necessities. Items are delivered to homes and gift certificates are given for families to pick out clothes, dishes, bedding, microwaves, toys, etc.
Good Neighbor Garage, formed in 1999 by Phoenix Assistance Corp, Liberty Church’s car care clinic and Cornerstone Assistance Network, equips churches to activate their mechanics to run Saturday car care clinics throughout Tulsa County. To date, 2,100 vehicles have been repaired (370 in 2007) to help single moms and senior citizens have reliable transportation to work, doctor visits, church, school and store.
Good Samaritan Health Services was formed in 1998 through the partnership of In His Image and Cornerstone Assistance Network to mobilize churches to start weekly medical clinics for those without access to quality, affordable health care. Two mobile medical units are used, one a 35- foot mobile van and the second 60-foot tractor trailer unit. Nearly 47,000 patient visits have been recorded, 6500 in 2008 alone. St. John’s, Hillcrest and St. Francis hospitals and several major foundations are among the partners.
ShareFest joins the ranks of past community servant campaigns such as Convoy of Hope (served nearly 16,000 people in 1998, 1999 and 2001), and the Franklin Graham Festival (2002). Through ShareFest, churches across the community ask City leaders, agencies, neighborhoods and families where help is most needed. Then, projects and ongoing efforts are coordinated by churches to tangibly show God’s love. The next ShareFest servant day will be Saturday, November 7, 2009 .
The Tulsa County Work Opportunity Recovery Centers (WORCs) formed in 2002 to help men and women who have been homeless, in prison, unemployed, on welfare, or simply aimless in life. Partnering entities work with law enforcement and judicial courts to surround participants with care teams and comprehensive support organized through coordinated care plans. Courts annually refer 250 pregnant women and those with disabilities to work off fines and receive services to address life issues, while 12 men and women are chosen to receive intense daily transformational assistance for a year or more to fully leave poverty and establish lives of purpose.
